CURRENT PRODUCTION
Assignment Christmas is the second play from Mystery Hour Presents on a shared theme of "Dark Christmas".
It is a brand-new, original, unofficial play from the universe of the 1970s/80s sci-fi television series - Sapphire and Steel.
Sapphire and Steel was a television series, which ran as ITV's response to the success (at the time) of Doctor Who.
We will be running the new show in the wonderful Prohibition Cabaret Bar in the centre of Newcastle Upon Tyne in the week following the third of David Tennant's return to the Doctor Who Specials during the 60th anniversary.
Doctor Who has appeared on stage before both in parody form and also officially under BBC licensing in The Ultimate Adventure with Jon Pertwee or Colin Baker in the 1980s (I saw Colin Baker's stint at York Theatre Royal).
To my knowledge, Sapphire and Steel have never appeared on stage until now.
And we have a story to tell that needs them.
We are putting the characters Sapphire and Steel live on stage for the first time in a full-length two-act Christmas play in aid of a Newcastle-based charity.
Boho Arts is currently in development and opens next year in Scotswood Road near Central Station, Newcastle upon Tyne.
The production of Sapphire and Steel: Assignment Christmas is therefore charitable (ie non-profit).
All ticket money to registered charities.
The characters are deployed under fair use/parody.
The story is entirely original and transformative.
But more importantly...
Christmas is in danger.
And only Sapphire and Steel can help.
If only they can find the Trigger and crack one final assigment.
